Manchester City look at Marc Cucurella alternatives and Kieran Tierney is a target

Manchester City have put Arsenal star Kieran Tierney on their summer list of targets, according to a report in Scotland. The versatile defender is highly appreciated by club and country and his defensive flexibility has made him a sough-after asset. The 25-year-old, who made 25 appearances for the Gunners last season, is a man in demand. Real Madrid and Barcelona have been “credited with interest” in the former Celtic icon. But The Scotsman has now revealed that Tierney features on a target list of the Premier League champions. Pep Guardiola used Oleksandr Zinchenko and Joao Cancelo at left-back at the end of last season. Cancelo though is naturally a right-back and Guardiola is looking for another left-footed defender. Of course City are without the Benjamin Mendy, who has been charged with rape and sexual assault. That has left Guardiola short of numbers and he is keen to address that this summer. And Zinchenko, is understood to be keen on a role further forward, and could leave this summer. Everton have been linked with the Ukraine star, while Metro claim Arsenal and West Ham are also in the running for the player who plays in midfield for his country. Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella has also emerged as a target fort City. But Chelsea are also keen on the Spaniard, whose price tag could hit £50m. There’s no doubt Tierney would be a rock-solid addition for City, but Arsenal will fight hard to keep the Douglas-born star. He arrived from Celtic in August 2019 for £25m and he remains under contract until 2026. The Scottish outlet have highlighted the importance of Tierney to the national side. His ability to almost fill in for three positions means Steve Clarke can push Andrew Robertson further forward. When he is deployed on the left of the back three, he features as a centre-back, full-back and overlapping wing-back. But while that versatility may interest Guardiola, Tierney’s injury problems may perturb him. The Scotland star has missed plenty of action over the last few years. Knee surgery saw him miss the finals two months of last season. He was expected to be fit for Scotland’s play-off with Ukraine, but he did not make it. Tierney has also suffered ankle and groin problems at The Emirates, while he also missed the best part of his first season with Arsenal after undergoing a shoulder operation.
