Malcolm Ebiowei, a young player for Derby County, is expected to reject Manchester United, dealing Erik ten Hag the latest setback to his summer recruitment hopes.

Ten Hag, who took over as the new manager of United at the end of last season to get a head start on the enormous amount of work he needs to do to improve the team, has already had a difficult summer.

The team is adamant about acquiring Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, but because the move is taking so long to complete, they are losing ground to their competitors.

Old Trafford has yet to welcome any new players, and the club missed out on acquiring Darwin Nunez due to a mix-up over a transfer fee.

Another setback has now occurred as 18-year-old Ebiowei is reportedly choosing Crystal Palace over a move to Derby, where manager Wayne Rooney formerly played.

"Malcolm Ebiowei, a talented Englishman, will not join Manchester United. After his medicals are through this week, he will officially sign his contract with Crystal Palace "said Fabrizio Romano.

"Ebiowei will join Palace from Derby County; deal is good through June 2027."

The kid was dismissed from the Rangers development team in 2019 and the Arsenal youth team in 2019, but he made an impression last season for Derby as they failed to fight off relegation.

Despite only making his Rams debut in February of this year, Ebiowei played 15 times for Rooney's squad and netted his first goal as a senior against Blackpool.

The winger has represented England and the Netherlands at the under-16 level in addition to playing for both at the senior level in the future.

Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze were two young players that Palace acquired over the previous two summers, continuing an encouraging trend.

Along with the De Jong and Nunez moves, Christian Eriksen has also been linked to a move to United after his contract with Brentford expired.

Although nothing has been confirmed, former Liverpool defender Jose Enrique made fun of his former club's competitors for missing out on Eriksen.

The deal for Eriksen has been derided because the players the club appears to be chasing continue to ignore the fact that the team is in severe need of a defensive midfielder.

Due to Harry Maguire's persistently bad play, who is anticipated to lose his position as captain before the upcoming season, Ten Hag is also looking for a center back.
