This summer, Barcelona hopes to complete a "hat-trick" of star signings
With the summer transfer window in La Liga set to open in just over a week, Barcelona is busy planning their strategy for the market.
And, as reported on the cover of Mundo Deportivo on June 22, Wednesday, Barcelona are planning a hat-trick of summer signings.
Due to their financial situation, Barça had major concerns going into the window. However, since the assembly voted to activate the 'economic levers,' there has been a lot of optimism at Camp Nou, with Joan Laporta confident of pulling off major deals.
And, according to the cover of MD, Barcelona has three major signings priority heading into the summer market. The Catalans want to secure the services of Bayern Munich superstar Robert Lewandowski, Manchester City midfield maestro Bernardo Silva and Sevilla defensive ace Jules Kounde
The speculation about Lewandowski has been going on for more than a month, with the striker entering the final year of his contract with Bayern Munich and refusing to sign a new one.
The Blaugrana have already agreed personal terms with the striker, but Die Roten are steadfast in their refusal to sell the legendary goalscorer. As a result, they have rejected Barça's initial offer for the Poland captain.
However, with an improved €50 million offer reportedly in the works, things could move quickly.
Kounde, 23, has been identified as the priority target to replace veteran defender Gerard Pique, who is set to play a reduced role in the upcoming season. However, with Chelsea also interested in signing the French international, things could get complicated.
Sevilla, for one, is ready to sell if their valuation is met. Barça, on the other hand, is hoping to reduce the price by offering a player in exchange. And it remains to be seen whether the club's efforts are fruitful.
Finally, Xavi Hernandez has made Bernardo Silva a priority, seeing the Manchester City midfielder as a natural fit at Camp Nou. The midfielder is also reportedly interested in moving to Catalonia from Manchester.
However, due to his hefty €100 million price tag, signing the Portuguese international will be difficult.
Barcelona wants to sign Lewandowski before the pre-season tour, and they believe Kounde is the most likely target of the three. A move for Silva would be contingent on Frenkie de Jong's future.
