According to Sky Sports News, Jamie O'Hara believes Jordan Henderson should have blocked Sadio Mane's move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich.
The ex-midfielder believes Liverpool made a'mistake' in selling Mane and is 'amazed' they let such a vital player leave.
The Reds revealed on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon that their one-time Champions League winner had left for the German champions, calling him a "club great. Those in the Merseyside boardroom have already reacted since the all-action Luis Diaz arrived during the January transfer window, while Darwin Nunez signed for a large fee before Mane's departure was revealed.
However, while those guys hold a lot of promise, replacing the established qualities, performances, and goals of their Africa Cup of Nations winning hero will be difficult.
Former Tottenham midfielder O'Hara believes the Reds, along with the club captain, could have done more to prevent their star player from departing.
"I'm astounded that they let him go," O'Hara stated. "He's still a fantastic player." He is still regarded as one of the world's top players.
"I can't believe they didn't consider giving him the money he deserves." When you're a top player and you see players earning £300,000 to £400,000 per week, even with those exorbitant fees, Mane deserves to be paid that much as well.
"If they're not going to pay him the money, someone else will." As a result, he must understand his worth. He's in his 30s, so it's another hefty contract for him. Liverpool has suffered a significant loss, in my opinion. He is nearly unreplaceable. Nunez, I believe, has been brought in.
'Mane, we need you,' I would say. We were so successful that we missed out on the quad last season, but they must go again. If I were Jordan Henderson, I would have done all in my power to keep him at the club. But when a player's head has been turned and he doesn't feel appreciated enough, it's difficult to keep someone from leaving.
Sadio Mane joins FC Bayern München as a new signing.
At the very least, Liverpool fans know that Mo Salah will be joining the club ahead of the new season, but there has been no word on a new deal.
Many believe that the club should have given Mane what he desired and also broken the wage agreement.
It will be clear next season if they were correct to stick to their ideals; if Mane suffers in Germany and Liverpool continues on their current path, there will be less pressure to give Salah what he wants.
Similarly, if Jurgen Klopp's side struggles while Mane excels at Bayern, there will be more pressure to give the Egypt international what he wants because there would be a fear that they will lose another crucial element of their team and suffer as a result.
