Nasser Al-Khelaifi, who is now located in Paris, believes true worth will be found in an all-time great in 2022-23.
Paris Saint-Germain did not see Lionel Messi's real colors during his maiden season at Parc des Princes, but Nasser Al-Khelaifi claims the Ligue 1 winners will see the "greatest version ever" of the Argentine in 2022-23.
The arrival of the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner in the French capital in summer 2021 was met with considerable enthusiasm, but an all-time great struggled to reproduce the brilliance of his iconic spell at Barcelona when he moved to new surroundings.
He is about to turn 35 and has only a year left on his PSG contract, but Al-Khelaifi is confident he can rekindle his spark and take his game to new heights in a World Cup year.
Will Messi be a PSG starter next season?
"There is no doubt that Lionel Messi has won the Ballon d'Or a record seven times, and it was hardly his best season," PSG president Al-Khelaifi told Le Parisien.
"However, after more than 20 years in Barcelona, he discovered a new country, city, league, and team." A new culture has emerged. As well as his family, he was harmed by the coronavirus.
"Last season was difficult for Messi, but next season will witness the finest Messi ever."
What was Messi's performance like in 2021-22?
Messi needed some time to adjust to life in France after his career-long links with Barcelona were severed, and he did not score his first goal for PSG until the Champions League match against Manchester City in September.
He didn't break his duck in Ligue 1 until November, and the season ended with only six appearances in the French top tier.
He added five more in European competition but was unable to help PSG advance past the last-16 stage as old rivals Real Madrid shattered his continental hopes.
Messi did contribute 14 assists in domestic play, and his creative abilities enabled him to add another major title to his resume.
