Manchester United's top summer transfer target is Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona.

According to sources, Barcelona feels that there is "no going back" in regards to Frenkie de Jong. In an effort to bring in the 25-year-old during the summer transfer window, Manchester United has increased their efforts. If this agreement is to be completed, there is still work to be done.

When Barcelona signed De Jong ahead of Paris Saint-Germain in the summer 2019 transfer window, Ernesto Valverde was in charge and Barcelona thought they had struck gold.

The Dutch international will be permitted to leave the club this summer, despite the fact that he has frequently struggled for consistency at the Nou Camp.

Since the 25-year-old was previously managed by Erik ten Hag at Ajax, it is no secret that Manchester United wants to sign the player.

There's "no going back" for the midfielder, according to Spanish journalist Alfredo Martinez, who recently stated as much on Onda Cero Radio.

According to rumors, Barcelona has made up its mind to sell and isn't changing their mind.

And that's good news for United, who are still negotiating a cost with the La Liga's biggest clubs.

Barcelona has made it clear that they need to be paid £73 million to release their midfielder, which would rank him as the joint-fourth most expensive signing in Red Devils history.

United, though, don't want to go that high because they are aware that their fellow European goliaths are attempting to obtain as much money as possible.

With a £60 million plus add-ons deal, United has already fallen short.

However, there is still hope that this transaction will go through and that De Jong will once again impress Ten Hag next season.

De Jong would be the ninth player to have played for both Ajax and United throughout the years if he were to join United.

After being judged unnecessary by a youthful Sir Alex Ferguson, Frank Stapleton departed the Red Devils in the 1980s and moved to Amsterdam.

Around the same time that Jesper Olsen made the reverse move in 1984, Arnold Muhren also made the switch from Ajax to United.

Jaap Stam gave United his all after arriving from the Dutch team, and the center-back helped the team win the triple crown in 1999.

Additionally, both clubs have seen action from Edwin van der Sar, Daley Blind, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and Donny van de Beek.

Barcelona feels that there is "no turning back"

Since Ferguson left the club in 2013, De Jong will also be United's sixth acquisition from La Liga.

Ander Herrera, Angel Di Maria, and Victor Valdes all showed up with Louis van Gaal in charge.

The Red Devils signed Eric Bailly while Jose Mourinho was in charge.

And just a year ago, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was successful in raiding Real Madrid for Raphael Varane.

In the meantime, Gary Pallister recently told The Metro that he thought De Jong would be an excellent addition to United.

Barcelona is aware of how eager United is to sign players, Pallister continued.

"Whenever United knock on their door, they will push to the very limit to acquire any money they can.

They remain one of the most affluent clubs in the world.

De Jong is at the appropriate age, has a lot of experience, and is the kind of player who can truly express himself at a place like United, so maybe they can finalize that transfer.

"He would definitely check a box because he is accustomed to pressure and the spotlight from his time at Barcelona.

Midfield has been a problem area.
