The Member of Parliament (MP) for Ashaiman is taking the government's choice to award Sir David Adjaye and Associates Limited the architectural design contract for the National Cathedral to them in court.

The deal, according to Ernest Norgbey, violated procurement procedures.

Despite his claim that he has no obstacles in the project's construction, he is unhappy with the nation's rules being flouted.

David Adjaye's sole-source contract for the National Cathedral is being challenged in court by Ashaiman MP.

"I don't have many issues with the cathedral's construction, but I do have procurement issues with the consultant's receipt of single source approval in this respect, so that's really my main problem.

"The Office of the President requested clearance under the single-source technique in a letter to the Public Procurement Authority. In a television interview, he said, "What is urgent about this contract that we have to go via single-source? The precondition under which they produced the letter was under 72 5 B, which indicates that you can only do so under emergency situations.

The renowned architect was given the contract, which has sparked a lot of discussion.

While some contend he is more than competent for the position, others maintain that at the time he was given the contract, he was not a certified architect in Ghana.

For instance, Kobina-Bedu, a procurement specialist, questioned the rationale for the awarding of the architectural design contract to him.

David Adjaye's sole-source contract for the National Cathedral is being challenged in court by Ashaiman MP.

He claimed that because the contract did not meet the requirements for sole-sourcing, awarding Mr. Adjaye the contract was unlawful.

On Monday, June 20, he remarked on Joy FM's Super Morning Show, "I (want to) ask why the Public Procurement Authority CEO and board authorised the contract since, from an architecture point of view, it does not qualify under any circumstances for sole-sourcing."
