Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the National Democratic Congress's (NDC) running mate for 2020, visited certain flood-affected regions in the Central Region to show her support for the victims.
Speaking to some of the victims, she explained that the tour was the outcome of a conversation she had with former president John Dramani Mahama to assess the effects of the weekend floods on the populace, offer any immediate assistance they could, and offer advice on the necessary development and planning to stop the alarming situation.
Jukwa
At Jukwa, where she first met the chiefs and elders, the NDC Vice-Presidential candidate started her visit. She travelled with her crew to the catastrophe site at the Surowi River bridge that closed off access to the Twifo Praso-Cape Coast section, explored the Jukwa market, and visited the Zongo to view some destroyed structures.
The Denkyira Traditional Area, which was also severely impacted by the floods, is where she also paid a visit.
Along with Dr. Kwamena Minta-Nyarku, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Cape Coast North, and a few regional, constituency, and branch officials of the NDC party, Prof. Naana Opoku Agyemang toured the affected regions in the Cape Coast North Constituency, including Kwaaprow, Amomoma, Duakor, and Abakam. At Kwaaprow, it was discovered that a sizable bridge that had been built during the late Prof. Atta Mills/John Mahama government to prevent a potential flood had been neglected.
KEEA
The Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) Constituency was another one that was damaged. There, the flood wrecked 15 boats and fishing nets in both British Komenda and Dutch Komenda.
The canoes were completely destroyed when the water pushed them against the sea defence wall as they were drifting.
Residents in the majority of the regions she visited claimed that the NADMO relief supplies were insufficient.
A classic instance occurred in Dutch Komenda, where just two cartons of cooking oil, two boxes of mosquito coils, and 30 student mattresses were sent to the approximately 100 affected homes.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang ultimately paid visits to London Bridge, Brofoyedur, and Ekon, three victims on the Cape Coast South.
She was warmly welcomed by the populace in every place she went, especially by the ladies who praised her wonderful deed and the special time she spent with them.
She assured the flood victims that former President Mahama will pay a follow-up visit to express his sympathies.
