Romelu Lukaku's mural was vandalized by Inter Milan supporters last year.
SCORNED Romelu Lukaku has received a warning from Inter Milan's fans ahead of his upcoming trip back to Italy.
A year after purchasing the Belgian for £97.5 million, Chelsea has agreed to loan the player back to the San Siro club for just £7 million.
While it would look good for Inter on the field, some fans have warned others not to overly rejoice the return of their lethal former No9.
With his Inter homecoming, Lukaku was "brought to tears."
The manner of Lukaku's departure a year ago incensed the Curva Nord.
At the time, they stated: "Despite the fact that we looked out for you like a son and treated you like one of us, you too proven yourself to be just like the rest, groveling for cash." Speaking to his fellow fans directly, Curva Nord warned them not to "run and slobber" after him, saying that he would have to earn their love via "humility and sweat."
Despite the player's actions from last summer, Curva Nord stated that it supports Inter and will not object. Given this, nobody ought to go greet him with scarves or banners from the Curva or its constituent factions.
He was supported (and treated) like a King, but now he is one like many others. Everything that will eventually be done to him in the future will have to be earned on the field with humility and sweat.
Let us also make it plain to everyone that we will never boo Lukaku if he plays one more for Inter, they continued. "Aside from a clear instinctive emotional aspect, pretending that nothing has happened would only give a further acceleration to that process that has been going on for years aimed at making us all stupid and supine consumers," they wrote. "However, we invite all Inter fans not to fall into the opposite trap, that of running immediately and drooling after him.
At San Siro, Lukaku, 29, and Lautaro Martinez created a lethal partnership that helped Inter win the Serie A championship in 2021.
But because he only scored eight Premier League goals, his ideal return to Chelsea quickly turned into a nightmare.
According to reports in Italy, Lukaku's yearning to return to San Siro caused him to cry when he learned he would be joining Inter again.
