Zinedine Zidane breaks his silence on why he was never able to manage Man Utd

Zinedine Zidane was linked with the job of replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United in November of last year, but he has explained why it was never an option for him.

Zinedine Zidane has explained why he would never be able to manage Manchester United after being linked with the job last season.

After two successful stints at the helm of Real Madrid, the legendary former midfielder has expressed his desire to return to management. The 49-year-old has not been active in football since leaving Los Blancos for the second time a year ago to pursue other interests.

Emmanuel Macron, the French president, recently expressed his desire to persuade Zinedine Zidane to return to Ligue 1, amid speculation about the Paris Saint-Germain job. Despite coming from the city of Marseille, which is a domestic rival of the French capital club, Zidane has been heavily tipped to replace Mauricio Pochettino, who is set to be fired this week.

Zidane had long been associated with the United job after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired in November of last season. Ralf Rangnick took over as interim manager until the end of the season, when Erik ten Hag was named Solskjaer's permanent replacement.

According to reports, Zidane had little interest in managing in the Premier League due to his poor command of the English language, which would have made communicating with players difficult. His links with Raphael Varane and Cristiano Ronaldo had led to speculation that a transfer was on the cards. Finally, the former Real Madrid manager was never a serious contender for the Old Trafford job.

Zidane reflected on that period in an interview with Marca, saying: "Would I like to visit Manchester [United]? I understand English, but I'm not entirely fluent. I'm aware that some coaches go to clubs without knowing the language, but I work in a different way. Many factors must be considered in order to win; it is a global context. I know what I need to succeed ".

Zidane went on to say that only "two or three" teams would be viable options for him to coach. This appeared to rule out any future move to the Premier League, with PSG, Juventus, the French national team, and a return to Real Madrid among his possible future destinations.

During his first two-and-a-half seasons at Real Madrid, Zidane led the club to three consecutive Champions League titles, as well as two La Liga titles. It has been suggested that the former Real Madrid manager is waiting for the French national team job to become available, with manager Didier Deschamps possibly leaving after this year's World Cup finals in Qatar.
