Club confirm 'agreement' for Wolves transfer target in bitter blow to Bruno Lage
Benfica have confirmed that an agreement has been reached with River Plate to sign midfielder Enzo Fernandez. Fernandez is a transfer target for Wolverhampton Wanderers and the club were prepared to exercise the €20million release clause in his contract. The 21-year-old wants to stay at River Plate and finish the Copa Libertadores campaign, whereas Wolves want him to join Bruno Lage's squad now. With Wolves unwilling to budge, Benfica have jumped to the front of the queue to agree a deal with River which allows Fernandez to remain in Argentina for the timebeing. Benfica will acquire 75 percent of Fernandez's rights for €18m, with River retaining a 25 percent sell-on clause.
