Chelsea transfer rumours: De Ligt talks on the horizon, Raphinha twist, and Nkunku depart
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel wants to see movement in the transfer market and is about to get it, with Matthijs de Ligt, Raphinha of Leeds, and Christopher Nkunku all linked with the Blues.
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel and new chairman Todd Boehly are expected to speed up the transfer market in the coming days.
This week, the Blues announced significant changes to the club's board of directors, including the departure of transfer negotiator Marina Granovskaia. Tuchel and Boehly are now in charge of all transfers, and there is still work to be done as Chelsea attempts to fill several holes in their squad.
Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger have already left. Tuchel wants to strengthen his squad in multiple areas, and Romelu Lukaku is on his way. Mirror Sport examines the most recent Chelsea rumours...
According to Italian media, Juventus will meet with Matthijs de Ligt's representatives today to try to persuade him to stay.
De Ligt has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea and is a possible replacement for Rudiger on Thomas Tuchel's radar. He has two years left on his contract, which has a release clause of just over £100 million.
However, talks on a new contract have yet to progress far, and the Dutchman wants that clause significantly reduced before putting pen to paper, potentially opening the door for Chelsea.
The Nkunku move skids.
Chelsea's long list of potential targets this summer included Leipzig forward Christopher Nkunku, but a move for him is now OFF.
The Bundesliga club announced on Thursday that Nkunku had agreed to a new two-year contract extension, disappointing a number of suitors. Chelsea considered the player because he could play in multiple positions, but will now concentrate on other targets.
And their interest in Nkunku is unlikely to fade, as the player's new contract includes a £51.6m release clause that can be activated next summer.
Raphinha, a Chelsea target, is widely believed to prefer a move to Barcelona, but they cannot currently afford him while adhering to strict Spanish FFP rules.
So the Blues are still a possibility for the Leeds forward, and CBS journalist Ben Jacobs claims Hakim Ziyech could be offered to the club as a makeweight.
Chelsea's £3 million winger has struggled to make the kind of impact he desired at Stamford Bridge, and the club is open to offers. But would he agree to play for Leeds?
