When one thinks of Messi, an image of a quiet man with monk-like patience comes to mind. The Argentinian, on the other hand, has had his fair share of controversy. He has recently been involved in squabbles with Brazilian coaches and players Tite and Thiago Silva, as well as Uruguayan Edinson Cavani.
He was spotted shushing the Brazilian coach as he complained to the referee about getting the Argentine captain a yellow card. Thiago Silva also accused Messi of attempting to influence the referees. He had an altercation with Edinson Cavani the day before. According to reports, the pair got into a tunnel brawl and had to be removed by Luis Suarez.
However, this isn't the first time Lionel Messi has thrown down on the field. Even patience, it turns out, has its limits. Let's take a look at the five football fights in which Lionel Messi has been involved.
1. In opposition to Ronald Raldes
Argentina and Bolivia met in a match in 2011, when Messi shoved Raldes for obstructing him from the ball. A brawl could have escalated if teammates had not intervened.
2. vs. Sergio Ramos
During an El Classico encounter, Messi and Ramos squared off after the latter smacked the Argentine with an elbow.
3. vs. Gary Medel
Messi was sent off for the second time in his career after a physical altercation with Gary Medel during a 2019 Copa America match between Chile and Argentina. Medel was also dismissed in that game.
4. In opposition to Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa
After a friendly match between Barcelona and Roma, Messi grabbed Yanga-Mbiwa by the neck during an incident.
5. vs. Diego Carlos
Diego Carlos executed a hard foul on Luis Suarez during a La Liga match between Sevilla and Barcelona, and Messi retaliated by punching Carlos in the face.
