In order to help with efforts to increase garbage collection and keep the city clean, Base Pharmacy, an importer of pharmaceutical items, has given the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) cleaning tools.
60 wheelbarrows, 80 shovels, and 20 rakes were among the equipment displayed.
Presiding Member of the AMA, Hon. Alfred Asiedu Adjei, accepted the gifts on behalf of the Assembly and thanked Base Pharmacy for helping to clean up Accra. He also urged other private institutions to show similar generosity.
As the first female mayor of "I want to thank Base Pharmacy for these gifts they have provided us since not everyone would do what they have done today, therefore I would want to express that on behalf of Since cleaning Accra is not a one-man job, Accra and my fellow Assembly members are appreciative of this and we also hope that other institutions would follow suit, he added.
The goods would be utilised wisely to carry out all sanitation-related operations in the various electoral districts, according to Hon. Alfred Adjei, who is also the Assembly member for the Avenor electoral area. He also added that they would be shared throughout all 20 electoral areas in the AMA.
Every Assembly Member will receive a functional tool thanks to the distribution of the things we got today across the 20 electoral zones, he said.
Mr. Korankye Ankrah, a Base Pharmacy representative, delivered the equipment on the company's behalf. The assistance was in line with President Nana Addo Dankwa's goal of making Accra the cleanest city in Africa, it was stated in a statement.
"As people, it is very relevant to live in a clean environment and as such Base Pharmacy upon following the activities of the Assembly in keeping Accra clean we had to proudly support this call by donating these items," he said. "I think this is also a step to ensuring that the city of Accra becomes the cleanest city in Africa as is the vision of the President of the country."
The necessity for Assembly Members and city residents to assist the AMA in cleaning the City of Accra was also emphasised by Mr. Ankrah. He added that working together as stakeholders would assist in maintaining Accra's cleanliness.
Following the commencement of the #BorlaInDrainsMustStopNow campaign, the AMA has so far brought legal action against 115 people for violating the Assembly's rules regarding cleanliness and trash dumping.
