UEFA has announced that no UEFA competition matches will be played in Transnistria until further notice.
Decision made in light of the area's present security condition
The UEFA Executive Committee has decided that no UEFA competition match shall be played in the region of Transnistria, in Moldova, until further notice, in accordance with earlier decisions made by the UEFA Executive Committee in light of the significant military escalation that resulted in the Russian army's invasion of Ukrainian territory.
Following an assessment of the current circumstance in the Transnistria region, the decision is based on considerations and generalizations made by organizations with expertise in international political and strategic analysis, whose reports have been consulted by the UEFA administration. The UEFA Executive Committee has overall responsibility for the smooth operation of its competitions, including the duty to temporarily prohibit the staging of UEFA competition matches in specific regions when the full range of circumstances so require (according to Article 50(1) of the UEFA Statutes).FC Sheriff Tiraspol has been invited to suggest a different venue or stadium (which must comply with all applicable UEFA regulations) outside the region of Transnistria for its home matches in UEFA club competitions for as long as the prohibition to play in the region remains in effect. FC Sheriff Tiraspol will begin playing in the upcoming first qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League (2022/23 season).The UEFA Executive Committee will continue to be ready to call more meetings as needed, on a regular and ongoing basis, to reevaluate the legal and factual position as it develops and make additional decisions as required.
