Sadio Mane explains why he's leaving Liverpool to join Bayern Munich, saying, 'I saw myself there right away' ahead of the transfer window
Sadio Mane has spoken out about his decision to leave Liverpool for Bayern Munich.
The Senegal international had his medical with the German giants on Tuesday and is expected to be presented as a Bayern player on Wednesday, ending his six-year stay at Anfield.
Mane, one of football's nice guys, became a fan favorite at Liverpool during his glittering spell, winning every trophy available, including the Premier League and Champions League titles.
As a result, Reds fans will wake up on Wednesday morning with the feeling that they have been dumped by their long-term partner, after having to hear Mane's comments about his £35.1 million transfer.
The 30-year-old was photographed wearing a Bayern Munich shirt for the first time when he arrived in Germany on Tuesday, signing items for a group of fans and speaking to the German press.
Mane was warned against joining Bayern, but in his first interview as a Bayern player before even officially joining his new club, the forward spoke to Bild about why he chose to leave Jurgen Klopp's side.
And his response may leave Liverpool fans disappointed.
"I was immediately excited when my agent told me about Bayern's interest," he told the German outlet.
However, Mane stated that it is too early to discuss this.
When asked if he will assist Bayern in reaching the Champions League final, Mane replied, "I don't want to say no."
Every football player in the world wants to win the Champions League. "I'm now on a very competitive team." But it's too soon to talk about the Champions League final because we haven't even played a game together yet. Nonetheless, we will do everything possible to make the final."
Already 'we'? Ouch.
"I immediately recognized myself there." "It was the right club at the right time for me." It is one of the most powerful clubs in the world, and the team is constantly competing for every title. So coming here was a very good idea and the right decision for me."
"My agent told me that there were enquiries from other clubs," Mane said when asked about his quick decision to join Bayern. That's part of the job. " But I had a feeling when Bayern presented their plan to me. I was more involved in Bayern's plan than anyone else."
Mane, who has already won the Champions League with Liverpool and been a finalist twice, will be brought in to help Bayern reach the the biggest game in club football.
