Entrepreneur and CEO of the McDan Group of Companies, often known as "McDan," has admitted that before getting married, housekeeping money—commonly referred to in Ghana as "chop money"—was one of his biggest anxieties.
This, according to Daniel McKorley, was the main reason for disagreements between his parents when he was a youngster.
Speaking on the Super Morning Show, he disclosed that he had grown up in a very low-income household and had seen his parents fight frequently about "chop money."
To be quite honest, I came from a really low-income household, so before I got married, I was terrified of "chop money." Because I didn't want to be married and knew that when the time came, I would be making excuses, it was one phrase I dreaded the most.
As a result, he said, "I refused to get married, and it was difficult for me since I grew up in a home where I saw chaos due to cut money, debts, and all that.
He said that the arguments between his parents over housekeeping money drove him to put in long hours to support his family.
"Chop money may end a relationship. It's a difficult issue, which is why I didn't want to ramble on about my parents, so I had to strain my back to ensure that there was food for the family, he added.
He had just advised men to stop pinning their future aspirations on their spouses' income when he gave this counsel.
The business magnate stated that a wife's wage is completely hers and should not be exploited by her husband at this year's Father's Day event, which was organised by Joy Prime on Saturday, June 18.
He maintained his position despite receiving a great deal of criticism for his statement from the general population.
"The truth is still the same. We are powerless to attempt to alter the story. The money of a woman is not your (the guy's) money; a man must be a man.
Women should be revered because they are the most endearing and magnificent creatures that God has ever created. You shouldn't be a dictatorial spouse just because you pay the money, he remarked.
"Just because your pay is poor doesn't mean you should alter the story. But make sure you pay back if the woman spends money on you and you don't have enough, he emphasised.
