Daniel Ledi, 30, was shot many times by armed robbers on Thursday in Adjei Kojo, close to Ashaiman, just before he was supposed to call the bar. He was left fighting for his life.
When the thieves assaulted Daniel in his mobile money business near his home, they left him with a head injury and a damaged arm.
While the police have opened an inquiry into the crime, his family has reported that Daniel is responding to the hospital's treatment.
The Daily Graphic is able to report that on Thursday, a team of detectives from the Police Headquarters in Accra spoke with Daniel from his hospital bed and went to the murder scene. They were also joined by top police officials from the Ashaiman Division.
Account
Daniel's father, Mr. Victor Ledi, told the Daily Graphic that he had travelled on Thursday from Dzodze in the Ketu North District of the Volta Region to Adjei Kojo, where Daniel resided with his younger sister, to assist him with the planning for his graduation celebration.
He claimed that when he checked with his son to see whether everything was ready for the wedding, he discovered that just some beverages and water for refreshment remained.
The senior Ledi claims that Daniel, who owns a mobile money business 400 metres from the residence, went to fetch the things before stopping by the store to shut for the day.
He took a while to arrive back, and then we heard someone yell, "Armed robbers, armed robbers!" Recounted by Mr. Ledi.
He said that when the other occupants of the home hurried outside to investigate, they were shocked to find Daniel surrounded by gunmen and having been fired at four or five times.
They were terrified, Mr. Ledi said, and watched helplessly from a distance as the criminals made off with GH3,000. At the store, Daniel blacked out and collapsed in a pool of his own blood.
Emergency call
In order to facilitate a prompt deployment, Daniel's sister made a call to the Tema Regional Police Command, which then forwarded the information to the Kanewu Police Division.
