There will be a big exchange agreement one of these days. And on that day, the rumor mill will throw a huge party, to which hopefully everyone will be invited, and the floodgates will open. Up until that time, we'll have to continue existing in our dull little world where player swaps (or part-exchanges) are quite seldom.

Matthijs de Ligt

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Chelsea's offer to trade Timo Werner and some cash for Matthijs De Ligt is the most recent attempt to diverge into this player-trading multiversal chronology. But even though those bags might be valued up to €40–45 million (albeit Chelsea would prefer that they just cost €25–30 million), Juventus is not a fan of the notion.Juve wants Chelsea to pay De Ligt's release clause, despite the fact that they appear to view Timo Werner as "a similar player" to lvaro Morata, which should instantly call into doubt their collective wisdom. That is currently worth €120m, so it won't happen.

Previous rumors suggested that Juventus may be open to a move worth €70–80 million, but as always, a cash transaction will be required. That doesn't necessarily preclude Werner getting a separate deal going the other way, but they won't be combined.

Because transfer rumors operate on a very basic level of intelligence and want you to work on their level as well, it is likely believed that Todd Boehly, the Chelsea chairman and interim sporting director, will increase the chance of a swap.

According to numerous sources, the player's wage demands and a release provision that Juventus wants to incorporate in his new deal were the root of the issue that resulted in the breakdown of contact discussions.

After negotiations for a new deal with Juventus officials fell through, the Dutch defender is reportedly unhappy there and wants to quit the Club.

The midfielder is reportedly interested in joining a number of clubs, including Chelsea and Manchester United, although the Blues are in the lead to sign him this summer. The Daily Mail

However, the player's price tag, which is claimed to have a current release clause of £103 million, could prove to be a barrier to the Blues' ability to acquire him.

Old Ladies of Turin will anticipate a bid in that price range, but Chelsea will be hesitant.

The Old Ladies of Turin will be anticipating a bid in that ballpark, but Chelsea won't be eager to shell out that much money for a defender.
