Astonished is Okudzeto Ablakwa When confronted with concerns regarding President Akufo-travel Addo's to France, Belgium, and South Africa, Ken Ofori-Atta spoke about safeguarding the public purse.
•Ablakwa has stated that he will continue to press for information on the trip's expense.
•Ken Ofori-Atta declares his dedication to preserving the public coffers.
Asserting that he and the administration were committed to safeguarding the public purse, Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has come under fire from North Tongu MP Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa for acting like an ostrich.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa expressed his disgust that the minister would make such assertions in front of Ghanaians after deflecting the question of the price of President Akufo-trips Addo's to France, Belgium, and South Africa in his wisdom.
The North Tongu MP asked Ghanaians to understand that such pronouncements from Akufo-Addo appointees are merely words and not supported by actions in a Facebook post shortly after the mid-year budget review was read by Ken Ofori-Atta.
"Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has courageously pledged to preserve the public purse, as stated in paragraph 6 of his address to Parliament.
Very inflammatory coming from the same minister who, after a protracted standoff, refused to reveal how much President Akufo-infamously Addo's expensive travels cost. Remember that he now conceals himself behind national security.
The mention of protecting the public purse, which we are unable to locate, must have angered or amused many Ghanaians.
"We must reach the unavoidable conclusion that present government officials don't care about pledges. They have no respect for the people who elected them, and their pledges are obviously not worth the paper they are printed on, he wrote on Facebook.
In paragraph 6 of the mid-year budget review, Ken Ofori-Atta thanked Parliament for delaying his vetting and reaffirmed his commitment to upholding public finances.
Permit me to once more convey my sincere gratitude to this august House for your understanding and patience in delaying my acceptance and following screening so that I may rest. I acknowledge the historic nature of this second term, and as I stated during my vetting, I vow to making sure that the public purse is protected and that the economy is transformed.
