The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ward 7 Alaukwu, Ohanze, has suspended Chief Michael Ibe Nwoke, the chairman of Obingwa Council in Abia State, due to anti-party activities.
Alukwu Ohanze, the council president, was suspended by the PDP's Ward Executive Committee for engaging in anti-party actions, according to Mr. Ahamefula Egbulefu, the party's Ward 7 chairman.
Nwoke, who was chosen as the council's chairman in December 2020, is rumored to have defected to the Young Peoples Party, or YPP, where he is running for the House of Representatives seat representing the Obingwa/Osisioma Ngwa/Ugwunagbo federal district.

According to the Nigeria Police, gunmen who are thought to be bandits have kidnapped 22 farmers from a hamlet in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) of Abuja.
The gunmen assaulted the town of Rafin Daji, a boundary hamlet between Niger State and the FCT, at the time farmers were cultivating their farmlands, according to deputy police spokesman for FCT Command Oduniyi Omotayo, who confirmed the kidnapping on Friday.
The interim management committee (IMC) was established by the governor of Abia State, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, on Friday to oversee the operations of Lokpanta Umunneochi's Umuchieze Cattle Market. They were given the responsibility to maintain safety and security or risk the market's closure.
The Governor, who was represented by the State Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, officially opened the committee at the Ministry of Trade and Investment, State Secretariat, Umuahia. In the state's Awada region, Anambra Police Command agents freed two abducted victims and found two vehicles.
The announcement was made in a statement on Friday in Awka by DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state's Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO).
Ikenga reported that the victims were found at around 9 p.m. on June 23 and that the vehicles, a Toyota Highlander Jeep with license plate NSH 398 HA and a Toyota Camry with license plate BRS 941 AA, were found the following day.
