How Chelsea Might Line Up Without Antonio Rudiger Next Season

Chelsea was one of the top clubs in Europe in the summer of 2022, yet they still had to let some of their stars go. Numerous important players will depart with them, including Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger, among others. The Blues will need to alter their starting lineup in order to make way for their remaining players due to the absence of these two crucial center backs. Trevor Chalobah or Malang Sarr will play alongside Thiago Silva in the middle of the defense.Reece James will play at the right wing-back spot in place of Ben Chilwell, who was forced to miss the 2021–2022 season due to an injury. As central midfielders, Jorginho and N'golo Kante will work together in the middle of the field. They will help move the ball so that attacking midfielders like Mason Mount and Kai Havertz can receive it.It would be simpler for the team to take advantage of the possibilities created by the attacking midfielders if Romelu Lukaku played in the middle of the attack. The lineup would look like what is shown in the example below.

Manchester United transfer rumours: Why United must sign a defensive midfielder

The team is presently anticipated to enter the new campaign with a weakened squad and a bench with no experience because five players have already left the club as free agents.

Over the next months, the board and owners need to address a number of issues, including the leaky defense, the gap left by Paul Pogba's departure, and the lack of a right winger with the ability to score goals.

The club's utter disregard for an essential area, the lack of discussion surrounding the potential acquisition of a holding midfielder, is a major cause for concern.

inadequate defensive midfield options

There are now no genuine defensive midfielders remaining in the league as a result of Nemanja Matic's departure from Old Trafford.

Although Scott and Fred McTominay have occasionally played in this position, the former has demonstrated his abilities as a box-to-box midfielder, and his skill set would make him a liability if he were to play exclusively in front of the defense on a regular basis. The latter, on the other hand, is a center-back for the Scotland national team and has been an attack-minded player since his days at the United academy. He is not the kind of player who should play the team's most important position.

Frenkie de Jong has unceasingly been mentioned as a prospective addition, despite the fact that he is not a pure defensive midfielder. The Dutchman is well-known for being able to help advance possession from his own half into the final third of the field through his dribbling, decision-making, and the types of passes he can make.

He is also one of the most complete midfielders in Europe thanks to his burst of speed, intelligence, and placement both on and off the ball.

Not a "DM," De Jong

The 25-year-old does not typically sit in one spot on the field since he enjoys dribbling forward and pressing the opposition anytime he or a teammate loses control. Therefore, placing him in a position where he will leave space behind him and open up a large distance between the defense and midfield would be detrimental to the team's overall performance as well as his performance.

The number six position is one of the most important positions in football today since it allows the team to move forward by acting as the lone holding midfielder while also providing stability to the side.
