The former Chelsea goalkeeper is the latest prominent figure behind the scenes to resign following a high-profile takeover.

Petr Cech, Chelsea's technical and performance advisor, has announced his departure on June 30.

Last week, GOAL learned that the former Blues goalkeeper was scheduled to meet with Todd Boehly and the club's board to discuss his future in west London.

The Czech has now decided to leave, becoming the latest prominent figure to sever ties with the Premier League heavyweights as they usher in a new era, following in the footsteps of chairman Bruce Buck and transfer boss Marina Granovskaia.

Cech is leaving Chelsea for what reason?

The 40-year-old, who returned to Chelsea in June 2019 after announcing his retirement, explained his decision to the club's official website: "It has been a tremendous honor to serve in this capacity at Chelsea for the past three years.

"With the club now under new ownership, I believe the time has come for me to step down.

"I am pleased that the club is now in an excellent position with the new owners, and I am optimistic about the club's future success both on and off the field.

"Petr is an important member of the Chelsea family," said Boehly, chairman and co-controlling owner.

We respect his decision to retire and thank him for his contributions as an advisor as well as his dedication to the club and our community. We wish him the best of luck."

What did Cech accomplish at Chelsea?

Cech provided advice and guidance on all football and performance matters in his role away from the field, with Roman Abramovich drafting him into his regime during the Russian billionaire's reign as owner. When a first move to Stamford Bridge was made in 2004, he was the man who sanctioned the signing of a highly rated goalkeeper.

Cech was part of Jose Mourinho's exciting rebuild at Chelsea, taking over as the Blues' No.1 goalkeeper right away.

He will hold that position for ten years before falling behind Thibaut Courtois in the pecking order, totaling 494 appearances for the club.

During that time, the club won four Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cups, a Champions League title, and a Europa League title.
