The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Wing has expressed worry on the legal action brought by pressure group Arise Ghana against the scheduled event.
According to a statement made by the National Youth Organiser of the NDC, George Opare Addo, the police's justifications for asking the court for a restraining order are only smokescreens designed to prevent overworked and suffering Ghanaians from airing their frustrations about corruption in the Akufo Addo/Bawumia government.
While Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, the Inspector General of Police, had the support of Ghanaians when he was appointed and displayed qualities of an honourable officer prepared to uphold the rules of his profession, he has now been revealed to be a puppet.
Uncomfortably, the IGP has, without sugarcoating it, built himself for himself an unpleasant position as someone who is hysterically more concerned in defending a gang of crooks in government than the really poor people whose taxes he is relying on.
"A small matter like the Arise Ghana demonstration's scheduled time might have been resolved with the organisers without having to use last-minute harsh techniques to annoy them. According to media reports, the organisers have really complied with requests from the Police to shift the scheduled time to a time they have suggested. What prohibited the IGP or his legitimate assigns from acting if the Police changed their mind about the hour that was agreed upon with the organisers?
"More importantly, why did the Police decide to break ranks with the organisers at the last minute? This unholy behaviour by the Dampare-led Police administration highlights one undeniable fact: the Police hierarchy has sworn to fight any well-meaning Ghanaian who dares question the reckless Akufo Addo/Bawumia government's wanton misappropriation of limited resources, in defiance of the wishes of some of its junior officers.
Because they are complicit in the irrational rape of our beloved nation, we shouldn't be shocked that the Police leadership has taken up this unpatriotic hatchet job. Every Ghanaian who cares about our country's future should support a protest like the Arise Ghana event. Sadly, the Police leadership appears to have gladly embraced the crooks in government who are plundering the State as their cover. They are the only enemies.
