Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who is also a member of the pressure group Arise Ghana, has stated that the purpose of their planned demonstration is to criticise the government for the immense suffering that Ghanaians are currently experiencing.
According to Sammy Gyamfi, the difficulties are brought on by both the high cost of gasoline and some of the petroleum-related levies.
He said that the 10 pesewas Sanitation and Pollution charge, or "Borla tax," is not necessary.
On Monday, June 27, Johnnie Hughes of TV3's New Day programme remarked, "The demonstration slated on June 28 and 29 is the first significant activity." He was referring to the planned protest.

"Most of these taxes—between 80% and 90% of them—are not necessary at this time. Former President Mahama enacted the Special Petroleum Tax at a time when the price of oil was declining on the global market. We stated that we would only collect it for two years, after which we would return it back whenever the prices on the global market increased.
