After July 31, 2022, the Communication Ministry has stated it will not extend the deadline for the national SIM card registration drive.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the sector minister, claims that several concessions have been given by the ministry, the National Communication Authority (NCA), and the telecommunications firms to guarantee that every Ghanaian registers their cards.
"The Ministry continues to keep an eye on the SIM registration process and holds frequent meetings with all network operators, service providers, and the NCA to develop methods to streamline the registration process and address identified difficulties.
The exercise's completion date was pushed back by four months to July 31st, 2022. It won't be extended again, therefore I'd want to take this chance to urge everyone who hasn't yet registered their SIM card to do so.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said that as a result, all unregistered SIM cards would be terminated by the end of July during a previous engagement in the Ahafo Region.
Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the member of parliament for South Dayi, claims that there are still valid explanations for why some people have not yet registered for the Ghana card, a crucial need for the registration of a SIM card.
The problem is that, for example, in South Dayi, it costs 150 Ghana cedis to go to Peki only to go and line and get registered when the card is not immediately accessible - he or she needs to come back and return [later for the card].
"It's a deterrent for them to travel to the district centre to get registered because of this minor economic barrier. Our request is that the NIA district office personnel complete the zonal registration, but they refuse to do so, the man said. In order to stay connected, she advised mobile phone users to try to register their cards.
She stated that SIM card registration was crucial because it would significantly aid the nation in its attempts to stop increasingly sophisticated internet and cybercrimes.
There is absolutely no chance that the deadline would be extended once again, she insisted.
