The late former president Jerry John Rawlings' involvement in boxing, according to Kofi Adams, a member of parliament for Buem in the Oti Region, was sufficient to demonstrate his selflessness as a leader.

According to Adams, testimonies of the riots on May 15 and June 4, 1979, show Flt Lt Rawlings' determination to defend the oppressed as well as his rage at the mistreatment of common people.

The Buem MP, who spoke in Parliament on June 23 to commemorate the 75th birthday of the former President, cited activities in Accra and Nkwanta commemorating the June 4 rebellion as important in addition to the boxing discussion hosted by the J.J. Rawlings Foundation.

For the young, many of whom lack the necessary tools or are uninformed about the role Chairman Rawlings played, the exhibition and theatre performance at the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences served as a wonderful reminder, according to Adams.

Ike Quartey, Nana Yaw Konadu, Alfred Kotey, and Isaac Dogboe were just a few of the boxers that Mr. Adams extensively mentioned from an interview that Azumah Nelson gave about President Rawlings and boxing.

Mr. Adams said that Flt Lt Jerry John Rawlings was a multifaceted individual and that it was touching that he was being honoured via a number of activities, speeches, and performances.

It's significant that today's subject is "J.J. Rawlings' Contribution to the Sport and the Way Forward," the Buem MP added. Let's use his memory as a guide to figure out how to best build on his success in boxing and other areas of life.
