As Erik ten Hag makes a transfer action, Roy Keane's Cristiano Ronaldo argument shows correct.
When others chose to blame Manchester United's iconic number seven for tactical issues last season, the Manchester United legend was an outspoken supporter.
Roy Keane, a Manchester United legend, previously stated that Cristiano Ronaldo would not leave the club this summer, and new manager Erik ten Hag appears to agree.
The 37-year-old was linked with a move away from Old Trafford earlier this month due to reported concerns he had about the club's lack of transfer activity so far this transfer window. United are the only 'big-six' club yet to confirm any incoming this month.
Because of the way United performed last season - the worst of their Premier League era - reports linking United with a move away began earlier this year, once it became clear that the Red Devils would finish nowhere near the Champions League qualification places.Giving a speech after a ritual home win over Brentford in which Ronaldo scored a trademark goal, Keane did the exact opposite by claiming that the Portugal captain was on his way out. When asked if he thought the game against the Bees would be Ronaldo's final appearance for United, despite the fact that he still has a year left on his contract, Keane replied, "I wouldn't have thought so."
"I know there is speculation, but I can't see Ronaldo leaving Manchester United next season unless something drastic happens in the summer. Looking at his goals, he's a threat, and any manager would want to work with him. It's as simple as that."
After two months, Ten Hag is thought to have decided that Ronaldo will not be leaving. Chelsea's unexpected interest prompted United officials to go on the offensive, assuring fans that last season's top scorer would remain at Old Trafford next season.
The Chelsea links were sparked by the fact that new Blues owner Todd Boehly met with Ronaldo's agent Jorge Mendes and briefly discussed the possibility of the five-time Ballon d'Or winner making a shock switch to Stamford Bridge.
High-level club sources responded to the rumours with the following statement: "Cristiano is not for sale; we want - and fully expect - him to be with us next season." Chelsea were not the only club linked with the superstar; Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain were also said to be keeping tabs on his situation.
It is worth noting that new manager Ten Hag has been extremely complimentary of Ronaldo before even meeting the forward.
Speaking to De Telegraaf about his plans for the club's legendary No.7, the Dutchman was unequivocal: "Of course, I want to keep Cristiano at Manchester United. He has been extremely valuable to this club. Ronaldo is a giant because of everything he has accomplished thus far and because of his ambition."
Ten Hag, like Keane, is adamant that Ronaldo will remain a Red Devil - and that appears to be the case.
