Bayern Munich's four crucial reasons for refusing to accept a move for Cristiano Ronaldo tell us a lot

Bayern Munich reportedly turned down the chance to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United.

The 37-year-old only returned to Old Trafford last summer and has one year left on his contract, which can be extended until 2024. However, following a season in which United recorded their lowest ever Premier League point total, the Red Devils are undergoing a reshuffling.

Erik ten Hag is in his first summer as manager and has already lost Paul Pogba, Edinson Cavani, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata. The former Ajax manager is expected to implement a high press system, which does not come naturally to the veteran forward.

Ten Hag has insisted that Ronaldo, who has scored 24 goals in all competitions despite a difficult season overall, will be an important part of his project. Ronaldo has also stated that he is excited to work with the new manager, but this has done little to quell the speculation.

According to the Spanish news outlet AS, Ronaldo is growing increasingly concerned about the club's direction in the transfer market, where it has yet to sign a single player. Frenkie de Jong of Barcelona remains United's top target, but other moves appear to be on hold until talks with the Blaugrana are concluded.

Ronaldo is concerned, as Liverpool, Tottenham, Manchester City, and Arsenal are all improving. According to Sky Sports in Germany, the Portuguese's agent and long-time confidant Jorge Mendes attempted to engineer an exit by offering his client to German champions Bayern Munich.

Several recent reports suggested Bayern Munich could make a move for the Portugal international, but the club insists those reports are inaccurate.

When asked if Ronaldo was a target for Bayern, sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic told Sky Germany: 'Cristiano Ronaldo is a top player with a fantastic career.' However, the rumour that is circulating contains no truth.'

According to Bayern sources, Ronaldo's agent contacted the German champions to see if there was interest in the 37-year-old should Robert Lewandowski leave for Barcelona.

However, Bayern are happy with the signing of Sadio Mane from Liverpool and have other, younger options in mind if Robert Lewandowski leaves.

Coach Julian Nagelsmann is also looking for players who can press from the front, and Ronaldo's salary would jeopardize Bayern's wage structure.

Ronaldo is said to be dissatisfied with United's lack of activity in the transfer market, having already missed out on a number of targets.
