IN THE GNABRY/LEWANDOWSKI CASE, FC BAYERN'S DOUBLE STANDARDS WERE CRITICIZED.

Lothar Matthäus has criticized FC Bayern Munich for treating the Robert Lewandowski case differently than the Serge Gnabry case.

On paper, the situation is clear: Serge Gnabry and Robert Lewandowski both have contracts with FC Bayern that expire in less than a year. In today's football business, this usually means that a player either extends his contract or is quickly sold in order to collect an appropriate fee. In the case of the two Munich stars, however, things appear to be a little different. According to Lothar Matthäus, this is also due to FC Bayern's lax behavior; the TV expert even detects double standards.

"With Gnabry, he does not want to accept the contract offer in its current form, and FC Bayern believes that you may have to part ways if this offer isn't enough for him," Matthäus wrote in his Sky column. According to reports, if he extends his contract, the DFB kicker will be offered a salary of 19 million euros per year.

But Gnabry is hesitant. As a result, the bosses placed the pistol against his chest. If a player does not want to decide for the club, it is only fair to inform the club so that a solution for everyone involved can be found that is satisfactory to everyone, said sports director Hasan Salihamidzic recently in Sport Bild and already indicated a possible solution.

However, the club takes a different approach with Lewandowski. "Here, the player brings a club willing to pay a fee, but they refuse to let him go, Matthäus speculated. Lewandowski had recently stated publicly his desire to change. FC Barcelona would be ready for a change if Spain is considered the big goal of the world footballer. However, Salihamidzic and company have vetoed it thus far.

Matthäus warns FC Bayern Munich against letting Gnabry and Lewandowski leave for free.

Of course, only those directly involved are aware of the specifics. Both Robert Lewandowski and Serge Gnabry received a lot of attention, but perhaps not in every detail. The truth, as is so often the case, is somewhere in the middle, Matthew suspected.

The fact that those in charge of Bayern criticize Lewandowski for his daring approach because of his desire for change, despite the fact that he, like Gnabry, only has a one-year contract in Munich, amounts to double standards for the record national player.

Be careful if you accuse one or the other of a lack of morals, but also act as a club as your own interests require, Matthäus warned.

The worst thing would be, of course, if both Gnabry and Lewandowski went free next year, which is absolutely possible, the 61-year-old warned Bayern.

Matthäus sees the current management team of the German record champions as part of the reason this happened at all. I'm not sure if these issues are also under the purview of  Karl-Heinz Rummenigge and Uli Hoeneß. You ran the club in a different way than Salihamidzic and Oliver Kahn, Matthäus explained.
