Edem Agbana, a prominent Arise Ghana member, has demanded the resignation of Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, the IGP, in response to the violence that broke out during a demonstration on Tuesday.

Thought to be a peaceful rally, it descended into violence as police fired tear gas at the crowd.

There is reportedly tension on the premises, despite the fact that it is unknown what may have caused the action.

The Kwame Nkrumah Interchange road is currently blocked and empty of both people and cars.

Some protesters may be seen throwing stones at the police officers in videos taken on the site. Some cars, including a police van parked at the roadside, sustained significant damages as well.

Edem Agbana, who was also there during the commotion, has accused the Police of being to fault for the violence that occurred during the demonstration as a result of this occurrence.

IGP and his supporters are protesting against Ghanaians...

However, they will steal our land and give the IGP and his soldiers orders to kill us even if I am willing to die for the people of Ghana.

"As the demonstration's organiser, I accept responsibility for the acts of the participants, which is why we met with the police hierarchy...

I hold the cops responsible; the IGP ought to step down immediately. The security of the people must always come first, the IGP must instruct his personnel, he told Joy News' Manuel Koranteng.

The police administration has, however, charged that the Arise Ghana demonstrators intentionally attacked and injured the security personnel stationed at the rally.

We were there to defend you and make sure you were secure, but instead, you threw stones at us, hurting and injuring us. This behaviour must be criticised since it is unacceptable, the Police declared in a tweet.

Three further protestors from the current Arise Ghana march were detained by the police.

The three were allegedly detained for their alleged involvement in violence, according to the police.
