Olympique Marseille of Ligue 1 may 'push again' to sign Nuno Tavares of Arsenal, according to renowned transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
According to a June 12 Sun article, Marseille is interested in loaning the 22-year-old player to France for the 2022–23 campaign. The story didn't receive many updates until The Athletic reaffirmed the rumours on June 23.
Earlier today, Romano tweeted: "OM have various goals in that position and will press again for Nuno Tavares as left defender." He has since added to that.
The Italian said that there was more information on Marseille.
"Clement Lenglet has a chance to leave Barcelona this summer, but despite rumours, Olympique Marseille has not started negotiations to sign him. No bargaining."
It's important to note that the Ligue 1 team only recently acquired an Arsenal left-back. After ending his contract with the Gunners amicably in December, Sead Kolasinac joined Jorge Sampaoli's team in January on an 18-month contract.
But according to The Sun claims from earlier this month, Marseille is already considering selling Kolasinac during the current transfer season. The Bosnian struggled in Ligue 1 last year, appearing in just 17 games and failing to win Sampaoli's favour. That may help to explain why Marseille has been connected with a Tavares transfer, given that their current lineup lacks any left-back specialists. Prior to Kolasinac's arrival, they did had Matteo Guendouzi and William Saliba on their roster. Both players will return to the Emirates ahead of the upcoming season after spending the first half of the previous season on loan at Marseille.
Last season, Nuno Tavares struggled for Arsenal.
Last summer, Tavares moved to Arsenal from SL Benfica in a transaction estimated to be worth £7 million. The youthful player was anticipated to fill in for starter Kieran Tierney at left back in manager Mikel Arteta's defence.
Tavares, however, had a lot of opportunities because of Tierney's ongoing knee problems. He ultimately appeared in 27 games for the Gunners across various competitions, with one goal and two assists.
While Tavares' acceleration and pace were electrifying, his on-the-ball skill was unpredictable, and at times, he appeared questionable in defence. It appeared as though Arteta did not have enough faith in him toward the end of the season. Tavares was available, but Bukayo Saka and Granit Xhaka began at left-back.
Tavares, however, still has time to develop since he is only 22.
