The Eastern Region's Kwahu Afram Plains South District's District Chief Executive's brother's wife was shot to death by her debtor.
Akosua Esi was reportedly invited to the debtor's farm in the hamlet of Iddrisu Akuraa near Kronteng- Krachi last Saturday to purchase yam, according to reports made accessible to DGN Online.
According to the DCE, Evans Kyei Ntiri, who confirmed the event, two people were shot and killed because of a GHC350 debt: his brother's wife and a motorcyclist.
The DCE said that Akosua Esi, his brother's wife, was a yam seller at Maame Krobo market. She often purchases yams in large quantities from farmers in the nearby villages and towns, as well as Plains of Sekyere Afram are.
"My brother's wife, who is also my wife, was a yam trader who buys yam from about 70% of the farmers in the Afram Plains area, but according to my senior brother, the wife informed him about three weeks ago that one of her debtors had called her to come for yam, so she went with one guy who rides a motor," he said on the radio.
Nevertheless, he said that "the debtor succeeded in his preparations to get rid of Esi when they (the farmer and Esi) arranged to meet last Saturday and shot both of them to death instantaneously on their way to his property",
The DCE further stated that following the event, the police gathered information and detained the suspect, who admitted to perpetrating the crime when questioned by officers.
When he heard about the event, he stated, "the Inspector General of Police despatched the Regional Police Commander and his team to the families of the deceased."
In anticipation of an autopsy, the remains of Akosua Esi and the motorcyclist, who is in his early 20s, have been left at the Donkorkrom Presbyterian hospital.
The suspect is being held while aiding with the investigation.
