After July 31, 2022, the Communication Ministry has stated it will not extend the deadline for the national SIM card registration drive.
Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, the sector minister, claims that numerous concessions have been given by the ministry, the National Communication Authority (NCA), and the telecommunications firms to guarantee that every Ghanaian registers their cards.
"The Ministry continues to keep an eye on the SIM registration procedure, and it regularly meets with all network operators, service providers, and the NCA to come up with plans for easing the registration process and resolving any issues that have been brought to light.
“The deadline for the exercise was extended by four months and it will end on the 31st of July, 2022. It will not be extended again – and I take this opportunity to urge everyone who has not yet registered their SIM Card to do,” she said on the floor of Parliament.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful said that as a result, all unregistered SIM cards would be terminated by the end of July during a previous engagement in the Ahafo Region.
In order to stay connected, she advised mobile phone users to try to register their cards.
She explained that SIM card registration was crucial because it would significantly aid the nation in its attempts to stop increasingly sophisticated internet and cybercrimes.

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the member of parliament for South Dayi, claims that there are still valid explanations for why some people have not yet registered for the Ghana card, a crucial prerequisite for the registration of a SIM card.
The problem is that, for example, in South Dayi, it costs 150 Ghana cedis to travel to Peki only to go and line and get registered when the card is not immediately available - he or she needs to come back and return [later for the card].
"It's a deterrent for them to travel to the district center to get registered because of this minor economic barrier. Our request is that the NIA district office officers complete the zonal registration, but they refuse to do so, the man said.
