An emergency and trauma centre is being built for the Yendi Municipal Hospital in the Northern Region by two nonprofit organisations.
Together with Global Mission Resource Centre, Mission 318 of the United States of America is building the 30-bed centre for $400,000 to handle emergencies at the facility.
The two organisations have been conducting medical outreach programmes since 2008, providing free surgery for hospital patients with hernias, goitres, and fibroids, among other ailments, performed by American physicians and nurses.
The center's construction is now 97% finished, and use of the facility is anticipated to begin next month.
The launch was announced by Reverend Emmanuel Kwabena Mustapha, the organization's founder and executive director. Due to the unavailability of a facility of this kind, patients in the eastern corridor of the area must be sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital in an emergency.
The hospital, which is meant to be a referral centre for the region, is located 73 kilometres from Tamale and lacks an intensive care unit (ICU).
Second movement
The gift is the second of its sort that a non-profit patron has given to the hospital.
Care Unit Ghana and the Global Mission Resource Center provided financing for the hospital's establishment of a $200,000 intensive care unit (ICU) and related medical equipment.
When there was an emergency, patients were sent to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, according to Rev. Mustapha, but the majority of them did not. He said that if the hospital had an ICU centre at the time, the majority of the patients would still be alive.
trauma facility
The emergency and trauma centre at the Yendi hospital is being built, according to Rev. Mustapha, for the same purpose.
He extended his thanks to Dr. Ayuba Abdulai, Municipal Medical Superintendent, and his management group for their assistance with the facility's development.
Alhaji Farouk Aliu Mahama, the representative for Yendi, as well as other residents, he said, had also made financial and in-kind contributions to help with the building project.
