After Erik ten Hag decides on his stance, Manchester United is 'prepared for Scott McTominay offers.'
Manchester United have agreed a £56 million deal to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona, but they have no plans to let Scott McTominay leave this summer.
Manchester United will reportedly reject any transfer interest in Scott McTominay this summer because Erik ten Hag sees him as an important part of the club's rebuilding effort.
McTominay is one of the few remaining central midfielders at Old Trafford after the departures of Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Jesse Lingard, and Juan Mata. Following a breakthrough in negotiations with Barcelona, McTominay, Fred, and Donny van de Beek are set to join Frenkie de Jong in Ten Hag's squad for next season.
United have agreed an initial fee of £56 million for De Jong, which could rise to £70 million with add-ons. After Barca agreed to sell, the 25-year-old Dutch international will sign a five-year contract worth £250,000 per week at Old Trafford.
De Jong's arrival will increase competition for central midfield positions next season, but it will have no effect on McTominay's position in the squad. Newcastle United and another Premier League club made preliminary inquiries about McTominay's availability earlier in the transfer window, but were turned down.
Ten Hag is said to regard the Scotland international as a "pivotal" player. As a result, United will not entertain bids for the 25-year-old, who has three years left on his contract.
McTominay progressed through the United youth system and has made 170 first-team appearances since making his debut in April 2017. Last season, he made 30 Premier League appearances, mostly as a defensive midfielder alongside Fred under both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick.
He was not among the players who reported for Ten Hag's first preseason training session on Monday. McTominay is among the players who have been given more time off after being away on international duty with Scotland earlier this month.
Ten Hag's first opportunity to coach his new players included David de Gea, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Luke Shaw, Brandon Williams, Donny van de Beek, Jadon Sancho, Marcus Rashford, and Antony Martial. With United stepping up their transfer efforts, there could be some new arrivals among the players soon.
In addition to De Jong, United have agreed a fee with Feyenoord for left-back Tyrell Malacia, which could rise to £15 million with add-ons. The Dutch international was set to join Lyon before United stepped in late with a higher offer.
United are awaiting a response from Christian Eriksen, to whom they have offered a one-year contract with the option of extending it for another year. Meanwhile, Mirror Football understands that football director John Murtough and his team are looking for a versatile forward who can play across the front line. Ajax forward Antony is on their shortlist, but Ajax is demanding £70 million, which is significantly more than United's valuation of £40 million.
