According to reports, CHELSEA has re-engaged Sevilla in an effort to close the deal on the transfer of Jules Kounde. After some outstanding performances for club and nation, the Frenchman has elevated to the status of one of Europe's finest center-backs.
There have been rumors that Thomas Tuchel's team has already signed to a five-year contract with Kounde, age 23.
However, after being priced out of a deal last summer, the Blues and Sevilla are yet to reach an agreement on a fee.
After Todd Boehly took over the club, they started exploring elsewhere for solutions as a result.
Additionally, recent negotiations between Chelsea and Sevilla were stymied by Marina Granovskaia's departure from Stamford Bridge.
Orgullo De Nervion, a Sevillan news source, currently asserts that Kounde's agreement may once again be on the table.
According to them, Chelsea has "started negotiations" and is looking to finalize the trade "as soon as feasible."
The Blues are also said to have informed the LaLiga team that they will submit a new offer that is more in line with Sevilla's £65 million asking price.
Barcelona is already out of the running to sign Kounde due to that sum.
The celebrity recently raised concerns during the international break when a long-standing pelvic condition resurfaced.
Kounde's decision to play for France against Croatia in the Nations League while still injured and putting the contract at risk infuriated Sevilla in private. The defender has subsequently had surgery, but it is anticipated that he will be ready to play at the beginning of the season.
