Leaked Audio Shows Sergio Ramos Asks Spanish FA For Assistance In Winning Ballon D'Or

The Spanish Football Federation's assistance in helping Sergio Ramos win the Ballon d'Or in 2020 has been requested in leaked audio.

Ramos, the captain of Real Madrid at the time, was overheard speaking with Luis Rubiales, the president of the Spanish FA, according to the Spanish news source Confidencial via Mundo Deportivo.

During their talk, Ramos was overheard arguing his case for winning the illustrious prize and was openly requesting Rubiales' backing in his quest to become the first defender to win the Ballon d'Or since Fabio Cannavaro.

"You know that I've never asked you for anything, but if I'm going to do it tonight, it's because I think this has been a special year for the performances I've given," Ramos was overheard saying to Rubiales.

"I want you to use your connections at UEFA that are connected to the Ballon d'Or to help me in any way you can."

Not just for me, but also because I believe Spanish football deserves it very much, I would be eternally grateful to you.

The Spanish defender was referring to his achievements in helping Los Blancos win the La Liga championship that season when he spoke of his "exceptional performances." The season was suspended in March and restarted in June 2020 due to the covid epidemic. Madrid then returned in superb form.

Ramos and his group were on an 11-game unbeaten streak, which included a 10-game winning streak that finally led to the league championship.

Ramos received a response from Rubiales in which he informed the Madrid captain that he deserved to win the Ballon d'Or and wished him luck in the forthcoming Champions League season, according to Mundo Deportivo.

In addition, Rubiales said that while he had no influence over who wins the prize, he would be happy to assist in any manner he could.

The 2020 Ballon d'Or, however, was postponed due to the ongoing pandemic. Ramos would have undoubtedly been disappointed by this.

Robert Lewandowski of Bayern Munich, who was the overwhelming favorite to win the award that year after scoring more goals than any other player in Europe while his side won the most trophies, including the Champions League, would have been the person most disappointed.

Ramos, who is currently a member of the French champions Paris Saint-Germain, had a challenging first season at the Parc des Princes due to a season marred by numerous ailments.
