Jordan Henderson's perspective on Jude Bellingham tells Liverpool everything they need to know about the transfer

Liverpool continue to be linked with England midfielder Jude Bellingham, and club captain Jordan Henderson could give the Reds an advantage in their pursuit of the Borussia Dortmund youngster.

While Liverpool fans await news on transfer target Jude Bellingham, captain Jordan Henderson's recent move has given many hope.

After losing Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland in the previous two summer transfer windows, Borussia Dortmund are understandably hesitant to sell the teenage star. Dortmund reportedly believes that the summer of 2023 is the earliest they will listen, with an asking price of more than £100 million suggested, but the Reds will still test the waters.

Henderson wished his England colleague a happy birthday, posting a photo of the pair on international duty to his Instagram stories. While the 'agent Hendo' chants may be a little tongue-in-cheek, the relationship between the two could give Liverpool an advantage in convincing Bellingham to move to Anfield.

Henderson, like Bellingham, began his career as a teenager in the Championship. While Bellingham was making his name at Birmingham City, the Liverpool man had a fruitful loan spell a few miles away in Coventry before settling in at boyhood club Sunderland.

Both have that experience to good effect, Henderson went on to represent England at Euro 2020, where Gareth Southgate's team reached the final - and it's clear that he admires his countryman.

"I don't like extolling players, especially when they're so young, because everyone else seems to do it pretty quickly. However, I've been very impressed "Henderson revealed this to SPORTbible in March.

"I like how he plays," Henderson added. "The most important thing is that I like his personality. I admire how he conducts himself. I can't say enough good things about him." He's a great kid, a fantastic player, and I'm sure he'll only get better as he gets older and matures. When I watch him, I notice that he is playing with such maturity even now. The sky is the limit for him really."

As the Reds consider whether to pursue Bellingham and prepare for a big-money move next summer, Henderson's comments tell them everything they need to know about what a special player his international teammate is on track to be.

The positivity goes both ways, as evidenced by Bellingham's wearing the number eight shirt - normally owned by Henderson - for his country in 2022. "It was a dream come true, especially from Hendo, who has been such an important part of the team," the youngster said.
