Former Manchester United striker Louis Saha has explained why Erik ten Hag is looking for the right players to help him rebuild the club.

It's no secret that the Dutchman is attempting to cherry-pick a number of the best players who worked under him at Ajax. Frenkie de Jong is his top target, and the MEN understands United and Barcelona have reached an agreement in principle for his transfer.

Tyrell Malacia of Feyenoord is in the same boat. While he did not play for Ten Hag at Ajax, the defender was closely watched by him in the Eredivisie, adding to the consensus that the new United manager is looking for players he knows well.

Some have questioned whether the Dutch top flight will be able to adjust to the Premier League's physicality. Jurrien Timber and Lisandro Martinez of Ajax, both linked with United, are both under 6ft and of average build.

However, Louis Saha believes that the type of players Ten Hag is looking for are the type of players United require and that they can adapt to English football without losing their flair. He compared the situation to Kevin De Bruyne's early days at Manchester City.

The Premier League has a physical aspect, and they [the linked players] are more technical players with flair - that's their style, and they shouldn't change," he told bonuscodebets.

They will have to adapt because every player at this level must. We've seen it with Kevin De Bruyne - I don't think his physicality was appreciated at first, but once his stamina was established, his technical ability shone through.

Ten Hag's transfer strategy is "smart," according to Saha, because he knows how to get the most out of his targeted players. "It's not just about being physical; it's about discipline, intensity, and how much you want it more than the opposition," he added.

The main thing is to have a manager who knows how to get you to give your all. Those players are of that type, and it is critical for the manager to add those characteristics.

Maybe he'll change his strategy in future transfer windows, but for now, it's a very smart approach.
