14 health centres in the Akuapem North Municipality in the Eastern region have received donations of different medical equipment totaling more than $500,000 from the non-profit Ezekiel Ansah Foundation (EAF) and US-based humanitarian organisation, Medshare.
Equipment such as ultrasound machines, hospital beds, laboratory equipment, surgical equipment, huge mobility carts, a heart monitor machine, and a variety of needles will be provided to the municipality's healthcare institutions.
By boosting the local healthcare professionals' operating capacities, the equipment will increase access to basic healthcare.
Significance
The gear will be sent to hospitals and National Community Health and Planning Services (CHIPs) compounds in the municipality for their use, said Madam Lamiorkor Esi Addy, a director of the charity.
"As part of our initiative to improve the standards and the quality of healthcare delivery in Akwapem and its surroundings, we engaged the health facilities in the area on needs and based on the information we gathered from the health centres, we assembled the medical equipment that will best serve them," she remarked.
She clarified that the contribution was intended to supplement already-existing medical services at various service delivery levels in the municipality of Akwapem.
She added that the Ezekiel Ansah Foundation, which he founded, was committed to delivering at least one container of medical supplies over the following five years.
EAF's Promise
"EAF has pledged to sending at least one container of medical supplies to the area and the foundation every year for the following five years. Plans to extend this initiative outside the Eastern Region, we hope, "she declared.
"As we have come to realise that not all requirements are necessarily the same, we will keep collaborating with the Ghana Health Service to create programmes for comparable vulnerable populations. To better their own lives, we hope that our communities will continue to take part in these activities "said Madam Addy.
