Arsenal transfer news LIVE: Raphinha saga takes twist as Gabriel Jesus announcement close

Arsenal 'desperate' to sign Raphinha Arsenal will be disappointed to have miss out on the signing of Raphinha due to the squad depth the Gunners would have had with the Brazilian. That’s the opinion of former Manchester United player Luke Chadwick, who believes the Gunners would have been keen to add the winger to Mikel Arteta’s roster this summer. Leeds star Raphinha looks set to join Chelsea after they agreed a £55m fee with Leeds, but Chadwick thinks the 25-year-old would have been an important signing for the north Londoners. “I think Arsenal will have been desperate to get Raphinha,” Chadwick told CaughtOffside. “I think it would have allowed them to rotate a bit, and make it hard for opposition defenders to pick them up. “You look at Raphinha, he’s similar to Bukayo Saka in that he’s comfortable on either flank, and Gabriel Martinelli too to an extent. I think it would keep the opposition guessing and pose challenges to opposition full-backs.”

Report: Leeds rule out one club from signing Raphinha, they've become very frustrated with them

Leeds United will now rule out selling Raphinha to Barcelona because they have become frustrated with the Nou Camp club, according to Mundo Deportivo. 90Min report that West Ham could now be Arsenal’s main competition for the wideman, with Tottenham also interested. The Spanish report says that Leeds have always ruled out direct talks between them and Barcelona as they do not believe they can afford to sign him given their financial difficulties. Raphinha agreed personal terms over a move to the Nou Camp in early March, but that has not been followed up with an agreement on a fee. Photo by OLI SCARFF/AFP via Getty Images Leeds’ patience has now run out and they are sick of waiting for a call from Barcelona, who have dragged this process out for so long. Nothing is scheduled with Mateu Alemany, Barcelona’s director of football, and Leeds have ruled out selling Raphinha to Barcelona now. Leeds have now opened talks with other Premier League sides, who can afford sums that Barca cannot get near at present. They also say that Arsenal are best placed to sign Raphinha as it stands and that the negotiations are going well, but with plenty of interested parties, nothing is done yet. Photo by Francisco Macia/Quality Sport Images/Getty Images Barcelona being out of the race would be a huge boost for all the interested clubs in Raphinha, because they are the ones he had his heart set on joining. It is a mad state of affairs when Premier League clubs outside the Champions League can pay more than Barcelona but that is the situation we find ourselves in. Arsenal seem to lead the race, but Tottenham will try and muscle in and the 90Min report also says that Raphinha would be open to joining West Ham, who went further than Barca in the Europa League last season.
