According to Bernard Mornah, a prominent member of the recently founded nationalist party Arise-Ghana, the police's use of force against the group's demonstrators on Tuesday did not break their spirit.

He declared that the organisation will keep pressing the government for openness, good governance, and accountability in an effort to raise the standard of living for the average Ghanaian.

Bernard Mornah expressed concern that Ghanaians participating in a peaceful protest to demand decent government will be hurt by the police.

When the group's top leaders went to see some of their supporters who had been hurt during their rallies on Tuesday and Wednesday in Accra, he made the statements.

Background

On the first day of the protests [June 28, 2022], as the demonstrators and the police fought over the routes to be utilised for the protest march, culminating in the exchange of stones, tear gas, and hot water, scores of protestors and twelve police officers were hurt.

Additionally, 29 protesters were detained for allegedly attacking police and members of the public violently and damaging government property.

According to Arise-Ghana, the two-day Accra protest was in response to rising gasoline prices, taxes on electronic transactions, and the nation's deteriorating economic prospects.

Cost

Mr. Monah stated that the organisation would pay for all of the injured members' medical expenses, and he urged the public to help the victims in any manner they could.

He said that one of the 29 persons who were detained by the police during the rally had been given release by the police yesterday owing to illness, and that the organisation had so far won bail for all of them.

Mensah Thompson, the Executive Director of ASEPA and a prominent group member, stated that none of the group members receiving medical care will be left behind.

He assured them that Arise-Ghana would keep an eye on their health till everyone had healed completely. Mornah thanked the hospital's administration for allowing the group access so they could see their injured comrades.

He claims that several of their members suffered various kinds of wounds, including hand, eye, and body damage. The extent of the damage that Mr. Thompson's colleagues have sustained has "truly traumatised us."

injured scores

Sammy Gyamfi, the National Communications Officer for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), stated that the party was still compiling the total number of injured people.

He said that the police's reported total of injured people did not accurately reflect the severity of the problem.

Due to the congested traffic in the city, he claimed the group was unable to see every injured person today. He added that the group will resume its tour the following day, on July 1, 2022.

Visits

Before seeing Robert Laryea at Accra New Hospital, the party first paid a visit to Nii Ayi Mensah, who has an eye injury and is now being treated at the Korle-Bu Eye Clinic.
