Report: Chelsea may still be interested in a £56 million player admired by Tuchel this summer

Chelsea is reportedly interested in beating Manchester United to the signing of Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona this summer.

De Jong, 25, is a talented midfielder who has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer.

Man United are in talks with the Barcelona individual about personal terms, according to The Guardian, after agreeing a €65 million (£56.2 million) fee to sign him.

According to the report, Chelsea are keeping an eye on the central midfielder's situation in case a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United falls through.

Blues manager Thomas Tuchel is said to admire the Holland international, who would ideally like to play in the Champions League next season He would, however, give that up if he agreed to join Manchester United.

Frenkie de Jong is a target for Chelsea.

Chelsea could still pursue De Jong in this transfer window, which would be a massive coup if they signed him over Man United.

He's a technically gifted midfielder who made a name for himself in Europe during his time at Ajax. However, it appears that despite a three-year stint in a Barcelona shirt, he has yet to consistently hit his best form.

Man United appear to be the frontrunners to sign De Jong, but Chelsea's potential late interest is intriguing.

The Blues Go Dutch

Another Dutch player linked to Stamford Bridge in this window.

Chelsea are said to have made an approach for Juventus and Holland centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

Tuchel's team is also reportedly preparing a £30 million bid for Manchester City and Dutch defender Nathan Ake.

While the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer have certainly accelerated the need for Chelsea's defense to be rejuvenated, Ampadu did not always appear to be heading out on loan 12 months ago. After playing in the middle of a back three against Spurs, the youngster continued to work with Thomas Tuchel squad even when it was back to full strength.
