Akufo-free Addo's SHS graduate excels in his first year at UK varsity.
WASSSCE results show that a free SHS graduate excelled.
After going viral, his plight garners presidential attention.
At Brunel University, Thomas Amoani excels in exams.
A brilliant but impoverished Free Senior High School, SHS, graduate who received a scholarship from President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has continued his academic excellence at university.
Thomas Amoani received 8As in his West African Senior High School Certificate Examination, WASSCE, a school record at Adeiso Presbyterian Senior High School.
Due to financial constraints, he was unable to continue his studies despite his outstanding performance. Fortunately, when a viral video of his plight went viral on social media, he received presidential attention.
President Akufo-Addo directed the Scholarship Secretariat to provide him with the necessary assistance, which resulted in his acceptance to a university in the United Kingdom.
The 19-year-old arrived at Brunel University in the United Kingdom to pursue a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Business Finance.
According to reports, Thomas was named the overall best economics student at Brunel University in his course based on his most recent exam results.
A Facebook user named Kwahu Ambassador, who first shared Amoani's plight, 'celebrated' the achievement in a video post. In one scene, he walks up a stage to receive a certificate.
According to the Daily Guide, Thomas is the only student who received a perfect score in the course Foundation Mathematics for Economics and Finance.
Thomas GNA report
The 19-year-old student is among the first to benefit from the government's flagship Free Senior High School program.
Amoani is a government scholarship recipient from Asuaba, near Adeiso in the Upper West Akim district of the Eastern Region.
During a pre-departure event at the Scholarship Secretariat in June 2021, the Registrar, Mr Agyeman, stated that the President's recognition of Thomas would inspire others to work hard academically, regardless of their background.
"I anticipate a large number of Thomases, and I can assure them that the Scholarships Secretariat will be there to assist them." Thomas' story should serve as inspiration to others. "I must also commend President Akufo-Addo for his prompt intervention," he added.
Amoani promised to raise Ghana's flag high when he arrived on campus.
"I never imagined Mr President would give me such an opportunity through the tireless Registrar." I am deeply grateful for the trust you have placed in me. "I will not let my country, Ghana, down," he stated.
