Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed interest in seeking reelection to his position in the next NDC Delegate's Conference in November.
He believes that his talents as the party's leader are sufficiently demonstrated by the heights he and his staff were able to take the NDC soon after the party's tragic loss in the 2016 elections to their current state.
During his appearance on PM Express Personality Profile, he declared, "Well, I will. I think that having led the party from a position where we had held an election while in power and lost by roughly 53 seats and more than 1 million votes when I took over this party;
And in less than two years, we were able to work really hard to boost our popular vote by over 2 million and raise the number of parliamentary seats from 106 to 137, I mean, with some contesting seats still being disputed in the law court. The fourth republic's first hung parliament has been created as a result of our efforts.
I think we've done pretty well, and we have the techniques and tactics that were used to achieve this, so all we need to do is smooth off the rough edges, close the gaps, and make sure that by the time 2024 rolls around, we'll have won decisively.
In order to win the next 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, he was certain that the delegates attending the Delegate's Conference in November would make the "correct choice" when selecting a party leader.
"Therefore, I will undoubtedly put myself up, and I think the delegates will have the last say on whether or not I continue when the time comes. However, I am aware of the NDC delegates' integrity and their awareness of those who are capable of guiding them to victory in elections.
So when the time comes, he continued, "I think we'll say the right thing, and they'll respond well, and they'll drive the party ahead.
