Cristiano Ronaldo's request to quit Manchester United this summer is a big blow

Cristiano Ronaldo 'asks to leave Man Utd' throwing Erik ten Hag plans into doubt

Only 11 months after returning to Old Trafford, Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly wanting to leave Manchester United during the summer transfer window.

Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly sent in a transfer request, shocking Manchester United by requesting to leave the team this summer.

Less than a year after returning to the club for £12 million from Juventus, the Portuguese superstar has made it obvious that he wants to end his second stint at Old Trafford and has asked the Red Devils to take bids from interested clubs during the current transfer window.

The Times reports that the 37-year-old thinks he has three to four more years to play at the highest level and wants to spend them at a club where he can continue to add to his impressive list of individual awards and trophies.According to sources close to Ronaldo, who is reportedly considering a transfer on both professional and personal grounds, he still has respect for the team and its followers. It is understood that Ronaldo and his family have endured a trying time when their little son passed away in childbirth in April.

Ronaldo, who scored 24 goals in all competitions and 18 in the Premier League, was one of the major players in what was otherwise a disastrous season for the Red Devils. After firing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in November, United finished sixth. Rangnick served as interim manager until the end of the season.

But United failed to finish in the top four, which would have guaranteed Champions League participation for the upcoming season, sparking rumors that Ronaldo may try to leave. The all-time leading scorer for his country is eager to compete at the top level, and United's drop from second to sixth painted a concerning picture. It puts a negative light on Erik ten Hag's first month as the club's manager after succeeding Ralf Rangnick and imperils the Dutchman's summer intentions. In his first press conference, the 52-year-old had made it plain that Ronaldo was a valuable member of his team for the next season.

However, the United star's obvious willingness to go has put a wrench in Ten Hag's plans after he already saw Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata, and Nemanja Matic leave. Without an obvious substitute, losing a player of Ronaldo's caliber could compel United to search the market for a replacement.

Bayern Munich, whose star player Robert Lewandowski is eager to join Barcelona this summer, is rumored to be one of the clubs interested in signing Ronaldo. Additionally, before United issued a hands-off warning in June, sources indicated that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was eager to explore the possibility of landing Ronaldo in a stunning deal.
