23-year-old Eddie Nketiah commenced his 2022/2023 pre-season campaign with the Gunners with a magnificent 5-1 demolishing of Ipswich in a behind closed doors friendly match at the club's London coiney training ground.
The Ghana target recently signed a long-term contract with the Gunners just before his old deal was due to end. Eddie Nketiah in his new number 14 jersey netted a hatrick for Arsenal. He scored all of his goals in the first half and also assisted one for midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.
Folarian Balogun scored Arsenal's other goal in the second half of the game.
According to management, this game was for players who had returned to pre-season training at the start of this week. Players who are on international duty at the end of the end 2021/2022 campaign are not yet back to camp for training.
Eddie Nketiah has an early confidence boost in this new page of his career, especially with Manchester City's Gabriel Jesus joining the Mikel Arteta side which will increase the level of competition that had waned, following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's departure and the exit of Alexandre Lacazette.
Also having playing time in this game during the first half were Thomas Partey, Ben White and Nidas Pepe. During the dying minutes of the game, loan players Hector Bellenn and Reiss Nelson were also featured
In the second half, Mikel Arteta then turned to the young generation, bringing on board highly rated midfielder, Charlie Patino.
Eddie Nketiah was born to Ghanaian parents in the United Kingdom and has began a nationality switch to Ghana ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup. He had a tough time during the first half of the 2021/22 season in appearances, but came onto the list of manager Mikel Arteta from January.
Nketiah featured in the last eight matches of the season, scoring crucial braces in victories over Chelsea and Leeds United. He played in all final 18 games of the premier league.
