Black Stars of Ghana's right-back defender, Dennis Odoi has made some revelations behind their truimph over the Super Eagles of Nigeria in a two-legged fixture in Kumasi and Abuja, which led to the qualification of the team to the World Cup expected to be held in Qatar via the away goal rule.
Inspite of their poor performance at the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in Cameroon which led to their exit in the group stages, the Black Stars showed class and qualified over the match's favourites. Nigeria were the match favorites as a result of their outstanding performance at that same tournament.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria's ambitions of playing at the World's biggest football tournament were truncated by a 'weakened' Ghanaian team.
"They told me about the rivalry. But I think you have to live, have to know, how to read the rivalry is. I know it was two West African nations that are very close to one another. The big rivalry is about Jollof rice as well, Odoi told Time Frame.
"We were fighting for the World Cup qualification. Obviously, it's sweet that you win against Nigeria, but no matter which country it was, we needed to win these two games".
" If you look at the Nigeria squad, they had biggest names, but names are not everything. You can have big names, but you need to be a good team, a good sqaud, and you need to be a cohesive group".
" I think that over the two games, we showed them that we as a team were good, and we fight for each other".
