Frenkie de Jong is still a target for Manchester United, and negotiations with Barcelona to determine a price are expected to continue this week.

Prior to his first season in charge at Old Trafford, De Jong is the top transfer priority for new United manager Erik ten Hag, and the club has been negotiating a deal for De Jong in the weeks since ten Hag's hiring.

According to 90 minutes, United is prepared to up its offer to Barcelona to roughly €70 million, with add-ons raising the price to roughly €80 million in an effort to convince the Catalans to sell. Although Barcelona's asking price is roughly €85m, United is optimistic that the current offer will be sufficient to complete the transfer.

Frenkie de Jong's fresh offer from United may be up to €80 million.

Although De Jong has openly stated that he is pleased to remain at Barcelona, the team is still hoping to offload the former Ajax midfielder this summer in order to reduce their payroll and make room for new hires.

Once a transfer cost is agreed upon, personal terms won't be an issue because United has agreed to offer De Jong a salary package equivalent to what he presently makes at Barcelona. United are encouraged by the knowledge that the player wants to join them, as Ten Hag has recently confirmed behind-the-scenes.

De Jong would make about £350,000 per week if the transfer goes through, ranking just behind David de Gea and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of United's wage structure.

United hasn't officially announced any new arrivals this summer, but they're trying to complete De Jong's deal quickly so they can move on to other targets.

Although Tottenham is showing a lot of interest, the club is still hopeful that out-of-contract Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen will sign. They are also keeping an eye on Ajax forward Antony and defender Jurrien Timber, though the latter is leaning toward staying with the Dutch champions before the World Cup in November.

Pau Torres of Villarreal is one of United's other objectives, and Lisandro Martinez of Ajax is another target.
